It’s been a while since we hired a car on holiday. It’s a hassle.
The queue at the airport desk, the paperwork, the insurance sales patter, the scratch check.
It’s a dull way to start a holiday.
We use our feet and public transport. With the aid of a smartphone - buses, trams, trains and walking take us to where we want.
In particular walking.
Today we walked on suburban roads. On cracked pavements. Scrubland. Edgelands.
Nothing picturesque.
Places most people speed past a few km/h over the speed limit. But by walking it we understood the terrain of our temporary locale so much better.
Totally with you re hire cars, and the constant worry (for me) that there will be an existing scratch I hadn't spotted on collection that I will subsequently get charged for!
Love the thought of walking on Edgelands :) my kind of landscape!
Enjoy :)
